RANDY SMYTH – Personal Profile
TWO TIME OLYMPIC SILVER MEDALIST
SAIL DESIGNER / SKIPPER
Randy’s race record and contributions to the sport of Multihull sailing span many decades. At 54 years old with 3 young children, Randy continues to design winning sails at ‘Smyth Sails’ while keeping his passion for sailing active.
As skipper for Kevin Cosner in Water World, and Pierce Brosnen in the Thomas Crown Affair, Randy’s unique sailing expertise is in hot demand.
Pushing his sailmaking skills to mega size, he radically exploited his no boundaries style of imagination to incorporate Cuben Fiber and radical sail profiles that powered the 110 foot monster Catamaran ‘Team Adventure’ around the world with every sail still alive after 28,000 miles. After loosing 5 of the original 14 crew members due to serious injuries and shear terror, Randy admitted that he has dodged enough icebergs for a lifetime.
Winning the Extreme 40 Grand Prix Circuit was probably his closest victory ever. After more than 70 races in venues including Spain, Brazil, Baltamore, England and Hollandhe won on the last race clinching this victory.
